Hold on! Before y’all start calling me names and accusing me of being unpatriotic, let me explain!
I’m actually very proud to be an American, I love this country and never want to live anywhere else. But I do hate the 4th of July, for one reason: Firecrackers!
I hate them. The pop! pop! pop! going off at night drives me nuts. And the worse part is that where I live it doesn’t just start on July 4th, people start lighting firecrackers early. It seems to get earlier every year. I swear, this year I started hearing firecrackers at night during the last week of May. And it went on all through June. Not every single night, but at least a couple of times a week. I’ll just be in my bedroom, minding my own business, when suddenly the little explosions go off. It racks my nerves, I hate it. I feel like it’s giving me PTSD. And so tonight will of course be the worst, because now they’ll really have an excuse to do it. Ugh. I’m sorry, but this is one historical tradition that I would prefer to see eradicated.
So y’all have today, celebrate however you plan to. Happy Birthday, U.S.A.! I hope it’s a good one.
Meanwhile I’ll be sitting in the corner wearing earplugs.
